Address already in use: NET_Bind, ORBX0390E on WAS

March 19, 2010 by Rohit Prabhakar 4 Comments

On WebSphere Application Server (WAS) if you are getting a similar error

ORBX0390E: Cannot create listener thread. Exception=[ > java.net.BindException: Address already in use: NET_Bind ].

The port to be used by the WAS is being used by some other service. Please check which application is using the port and kill the process or restart your machine.

St. Patrick

March 18, 2010 by Rohit Prabhakar Leave a Comment

Today I came to know about some very interesting things about St. Patrick‘s Day from the new team I am working with. It is an Irish festival that is celebrated to mark a thanking day for St. Patrick a.k.a St. Paddy for making Ireland snakes free. It started as a religious holiday and finally become an Irish representation across many countries. The team here celebrated it by wearing green shirts and tops. They also told me that this is marked by drinking green colored alcohol, green colored eggs (using spinach) etc.

The most interesting fact I came to know is that the Chicago River is dyed Green on this day.

IBM Websphere: Change config if machine name or network name changed

March 16, 2010 by Rohit Prabhakar 3 Comments

Recently you changed the machine name or network name and now you are facing problems with the IBM WebSphere. The behavior of the application server has turned weird as it does not stop when asked to stop from the console or the menu etc.

In order to fix this problem we can update the new name wither manually or from admin UI of IBM WebSphere.

MANUAL

  • Open the serverindex.xml in an editor. C:WS6AppServerprofilesdefaultconfigcellsLTL3AHM4MNode01CellnodesLTL3AHM4MNode01serverindex.xml (This path may be different on your machine)
  • Replace all the instances of the old computer name with the new name
  • Save

ADMIN UI

You can also do this from the Admin console of the server.

  • Go to Click Servers > Application servers > server1
  • Select Communication > Ports
  • Over here you will see the old host name in the Host column.
  • Click on every port name and change the host value to the new value.

Click Save when all Host values have been updated.

Personalized Google search becomes more personal

March 4, 2010 by Rohit Prabhakar Leave a Comment

Today Google announced a new feature of STARS to give a better personalized search. This will help us to mark some results as favorite and we can get this on the top of the list whenever we search for the same thing again. It will be fantastic as lot of times I want to go back to the same old link that I goggled, but till now there was no way except bookmarks! Google will start rolling this out in coming days to all its users.

With stars, you can simply click the star marker on any search result or map and the next time you perform a search, that item will appear in a special list right at the top of your results when relevant.
