Mac or PC: What should I buy? Advise please!

Even after 3 days of extensive thoughts and discussion I am still confused with the decision to buy mac or pc. I have another 18 hrs to decide and buy (my own personal deadline). Comments are well appreciated.

I am going to to use this machine for the following most of the times:

  • Normal daily use like emails, web browsing etc.
  • Programming (Java, Oracle etc.) and application servers (JBoss etc.)
  • Photos and Videos (Non-Professional)
  • Blogging
  • Music
  • Movies

  1. any idea as to why you are even buying a computer? for what uses?
to play 3 instances of Crysis at the same time?
the print photos through your computer?

comon, dont just say: MAC OR PC. all the mac fanboys are gna jump the ship and say Mac.
be smart and state what you are using it for.
if you cant, then just go with mac.

    1. Mac. Because performance and usability depends on the harmony between hardware and software. This is hard to achieve in any pc because hardware and software on a pc are usually like blinds and deafs.

Apple is paying great attention and works very hard to create and maintain this harmony. Therefore, they produce their own hardware and create the software for it. They also care about usability.

    2. Thanks!

Here is what I am going to use it for:
      1) Normal daily use like emails etc.
      2) Programming (Java etc.)
      3) Photos
      4) Blogging

  4. if that is ALL you ever do with it, might as well, go Mac. but keep in mind, they still have a very small market share, and most software is still written for Windows. I have both a Mac book Pro and a Windows machine, and the Mac is more of a tinker toy to me. My daughter uses it to surf on facebook & get her e-mail. pretty much all it gets used for.

    1. Hi Abby

I finally settled with a Macbook Pro. The overall performance numbers I got from discussion threads and the low cost of the software (I got the iWorks for only 49$ with the notebook, while the MS Office costs more than 150$ alone.)

I would advise you the same. If you are not in the field of media the only criteria to choose between both should be your budget as you can get a Dell laptop for almost half the price of a macbook pro.

      Thanks
